Question
I've also heard that Jerusalem and Israel will be protected in some ways — therefore, the tools of sacrifice are being reinstated currently. Daniel 9:26ff teaches that preparations are being made for the temple to be rebuilt. Is this right?
Answer
The decree, the preparations, and even the building and reinstatement of the sacrifices already took place with the building of the second temple (described in Ezra-Nehemiah; see above; cf. Ezra 3:10ff.). No prophecy of rebuilding any temple exists in Scripture that was given after the building of the second temple of which we read in Ezra-Nehemiah. All Old Testament prophecies regarding the rebuilding of the temple and the reinstitution of sacrifice pertained to the second temple.
